Project 365

I just learned about a fun idea called Project 365. The idea is to take a picture each and every day. By the end of the year, I can look back and have a record of my year. I am going to give it a try. I may not post each and every day, but I plan to take a picture every day. Since today is the 6th day, I am already behind, so I took 4 pictures today and I will make up for the others sometime through the next few days or months.

Kasey goes to BYU!!!

August 25-27, 2009 - Kasey and I flew to Utah for her to start college at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah! She was so excited to get started!!!! I enjoyed helping her get settled, seeing where she would be living and meeting some of her new friends. I was sad to see her leave home, but grateful that she has the opportunity for this experience and the chance to go to college.

August 17, 2009 - Nathanael spent much of the Summer working on his Fishing Merit Badge. Kent took Savannah and Nathanael fishing at the lake near his work. They enjoyed a beautiful day outside even though they did not catch any fish.

Summer Vacation - Part 2

Friday, June 12, 2009 - Kent, Kelli, Nathanael and Savannah went to the Great Salt Lake with Aunt Carla and Uncle Glen and cousins Jessie and Tanner. They had fun playing in the sand and water. Kasey and I had our own adventure by taking the bus and train from Bountiful to Provo to look around Brigham Young University. We returned after midnight, so being in downtown Salt Lake City late at night was an adventure in and of itself!

Saturday, June 13, 2009 - Kennecott Copper Mine - We thoroughly enjoyed visiting the world's largest man-made excavation. It is so big that it can be seen from space. We were very impressed by size of the mine, and the size of the heavy equipment used to transport the ore.

The wheel like the one in the pictures above belong on trucks like the dump truck below.

The truck in the foreground of the picture below is a regular size semi truck.

I had no idea dump trucks could be so big!Kelli and I both really like this picture.I think that Savannah looks so cute in this picture!Sunday, June 14, 2009 - Kasey, Kelli, Nathanael, Kent's sister, and I went to the weekly broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Children under the age of 8 are not allowed to attend since it is a live radio broadcast. Savannah will get to go another time. It was so exciting to see the choir and hear the beautiful music! The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is certainly one of the church's treasures!We spent Sunday afternoon visiting with Kent's family. Savannah and Norman's dog, Ricky, were inseparable. Ricky and all the younger grandkids were inseparable! Fortunately, Ricky didn't seem to mind the extra attention.Monday, June 15, 2009 - We hiked to Mt. Timpanogos cave with Kent's brother, Norman, and his sister Christine and her family. The trail to the cave is a nice, paved, winding trail. It is great for a family hike. We were impressed with how well Savannah did. She LOVED walking with Uncle Norman the entire way!!!

Timpanogos cave.During the evening of June 15, we celebrated Kent's parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary by going out to a nice dinner and taking lots of pictures.

Tuesday, June 16, 2009 - Last day in Utah - Hike to Pfeifferhorn

Our goal was to hike to the top of the Pfeifferhorn. We hiked through spectacular

mountain scenes and beautiful aspens groves.

We hiked through a lot of snow and thought that reaching the top would be difficult. Our plan was to hike to the other side of the Red Pine Lake, sit on a big rock and enjoy lunch. When we got to the lake, we realized that there was way too much snow which would make it dangerous to go around the lake. We tried to eat, but when we sat down, the wind picked up and it started to sleet. We probably didn't stay at the lake more than 5 minutes and we headed back down the mountain. The next time we are in Utah, we hope to hike the Pfeifferhorn later in the Summer, after the snow has melted.

Summer Vacation - Part 1

The drive to Utah was very different on this trip. It rained several times and the landscape was much greener than we had ever seen it. The sky and the mountains were beautiful.

Day One - Sightseeing in downtown Salt Lake City

Our first stop in was East High, home of the High School Musical movies. School was out for summer, but the building was open and we were able to walk around and take lots of pictures. We were surprised when we realized that we stayed over an hour!! It was a lot of fun!!!! Salt Lake City Temple

We toured the Conference Center that is across the street from the Temple. General Conference is held here the first weekend of April and October each year. Cultural events are held here throughout the year.

Trees and plants have been planted on the roof of the Conference Center. It is a beautiful oasis in the midst of such a big city.

Savannah enjoyed touching the water in this beautiful indoor water fountain.

I love this stained glass artwork. Depending on where you stand, it looks 3 dimensional.

I love this cute "sister moment" between Kasey and Savannah.

Kent is carrying Savannah for her first of what will probably be many trips to the University of Utah bookstore. We stop here everytime that we go to Utah so that Kent can stock up on UofU shirts. I even went to the UofU bookstore when I went to Utah to take Kasey to BYU.
